Desperate need for help!!

Recently the American Legion contacted me about helping one of their members, Hazel Susan Callahan. Here is her story:

I have been coming to the Legion for a long time. I have even had 2 benefits there. Well, I need some help. In two years, I lost my granddaughter, had neck surgery and broken my leg in a fall. In the process, they discovered that I have breast cancer. I have also had hip replacement surgery.

I am not asking for a hand out but I do need a hand up. I have 14 months of payments remaining before I own my home but the home is badly in need of repair. My bathroom floor is collapsing and my sink is rotted out. My toilet is broken and my tub is too high up for me to get in to take a bath.

I’m told that I need a walk-in shower with a seat and safety rails as well as all the other repairs needed. My house is in danger of being condemned if we are not able to make most of these repairs.

Lyn CAG cannot pay for all of the repairs so if I don’t receive help soon, my house will be condemned and I will be homeless. Thank you for any support that you can give.

Sincerely Hazel Susan Callahan

The American Legion has found a way to do all of the repairs in her bathroom for a reasonable price. If you need more information on the repairs and costs you can call Glenn Stantiford of the American Legion at his home – 434-525-2508.

We are setting up a fund in the district office to track any money that we receive and from there will carefully disburse the funds as needed to the American Legion so you can mail checks to the Lynchburg District Office at 621 Court St. Lynchburg, Va 24504 – On the check write Hazel Callahan so we will know to put it into the fund.
